Business

I'm back at my old job for a 6 week contract. It's like the past six months never happened. It's quite possible it didn't. The only thing that makes me think time actually passed is that people keep commenting that I look "good and relaxed". I guess when I was there I looked "shitty and stressed".

Been listening to Big Business - Head for the Shallow. It's some super rock. Jared's vocals really make the album for me. The music is badass but if it was just some boring hipster-screamo vocals it'd be a dud. Of course I've missed them the past 2 times they were in SF.

new the mass

Last night was the first show with our friend Andy on bass. We are much heavier and faster with him in the mix. We ended the set with a coupla Black Flag songs - Six pack and Depression. All in all a good night of rock. Andy plays guitar in Lower Forty-Eight, who recently broke up but are back together for a swan song european tour to support their latest album Apertures . Check it out, it sounds killer.

We played with Floating Goat - heavy stoner metal with solos galore, and Subarachnoid Space - heavy, psychedelic space jams that were actually pretty awesome. I'm leery of the psych-jam crap but they were cool. To top off the night there was a dead rat somewhere under the stage so every so often i got a whiff of decayed rat flesh. Nice.

Next up is writing new material. Andy's gonna be gone so it's just us three for a couple of months. We'd like to get at least one post-Matthew recording out.

Snow

it freakin' snowed in san francisco on friday. crazy. my friend's girlfriend got in a snowball fight in the mission. if you've ever been here you know how ludicrous that last sentence is. here's a pic of bonnie at homewood in tahoe. i love tahoe.

man, i'm happy not to be doing IT work right now. i'm digging the painting. i have a line on doing some side carpentry too. i know a little bit about it, but am psyched to put some real time in. the last time i quit my IT job i ended up doing HVAC and drywalling. it's good to step away from the corporate bullshit every few years. i'm sure i'll go back eventually but right now i have zero stress, less pain in my neck/hand and i'm getting back in shape.

getting ready for the sopranos/big love HBO night. pizza's coming and the beer's chilling nicely.

Scorpion

have today off. painting's a little slow this week. we thought about driving down to monterey or big sur. rainstorms all weekend down there. god, california weather sucks. maybe some boarding up in tahoe. probably not.

the new tom/tyler/phil/matt project is becoming a large chunk of rock. we are both tuned down to B, so our bass player just bought a schecter scorpion bass: http://redirx.com/?7g55 . it's "set up" for low tuning, B-E-A-D. it was totally made for the nu-metal musician, but works great for us. playing in standard tuning with 'the mass' sounds puny in comparison. the plan is to get ready for a first show in july/august.

that's all i have to say.

Svengoolie

Been talking about the old Chicago children's shows at work lately. Bozo, Gigglesnort Hotel, Son of Svengoolie, etc. The internet is good to refresh on the details. Seems that Son of Svengoolie is now just Svengoolie and still bringing the Berwyn humor/horror. nice.

There's one show that I cannot find anything on: Mr. Moustache. I was actually on this show as a kid. It was some weird guy with a moustache and a studio full of kids. ~Maybe it was Rockford. Yep, here it is! Ok, gotta watch some of the old video clips....boy, Mr. Moustache was kind of a dick.
