Farewell

I know the story's kinda old but we're going to Vegas in a couple weeks and in poking around I see that the Stardust is closed...and set for implosion the day we leave! The last of the mob-run casinos bites it. I was lucky enough to catch Don Rickles there a couple years ago.
When the casino was officially closed at 12 Noon, the Bobbie Howard Band led the customers out the doors for the last time (in a conga line) to the tune of "When the Saints Go Marching In", and the hotel/casino complex closed forever after a 48 year run of continuous 24 hour operation. Outside, the loudspeakers were playing the John Lennon song "Nobody Told Me", which contains the line Nobody told me there'd be days like these / Strange days indeed. -wikipedia
So long, Vegas.

Up to my amp in recording

We headed up to Marin on Tuesday to this guy's house/studio to work on guitars. Seriously.

When we recorded the drums we played all the guitars live and grabbed a DI signal from them. Now, we are Re-amping everything through Jeff's killer amp collection. Reamp is the shit. You take the DI signal out of ProTools, into the Reamp then into an amp. you then mic the amp, press record and sit back while your parts play themselves. Don't like the sound?? Plug into another amp. Awesome. We are going on Saturday to work on all the songs.

Next weekend this other band I'm in is going to Louder Studios to record an EP with Tim Green. This will be a much different experience as Tim is a 100% old school engineer. No Pro-Tools crap. Tape is sweet but expensive and Quantegy just closed up shop on tape production.

Two different approaches to recording - both have their merits and their disadvantages. To me it really comes down to your goals. Because of a sweet hookup we are able to record in "pro" studios using pro-tools, reamp gadgets, etc....Is that a good thing?? It's fun and Reamp is genius but I'm looking forward to a weekend at Tim's sitting next to the old tape machine, drinking whiskey and watching him pull out the razor blade to edit our mix.

Final post on football

Out-coached and out-played. Did we blitz once? The front 4 did nothing and the offense was miserable.

That's all I have to say about that game.

All in all, though, a tremendous season of football. There's a TON of great young players out there and next season should be even better.

Go Bulls!

about time.

Ah, yes. It's not a political career until the sex scandal sets in. This has to piss the dems off to no end. We got the good scandal and reports of him being drunk at a police officer's funeral. Affairs, "drinking problems", ambition...happy birthday, Mr. President.

I still have no prediction for the Bears. I have money riding on this game in various forms but I have one big worry and it's not Son of Archie, Brother of Eli. It's Vinatieri.
